Campus Housing

SBU strongly encourages FLY participants to live on campus during their first semester or year at Stony Brook University.   Living on campus ensures students have the best possible experience upon arrival at SBU and are integrated into campus life.

All returning FLY participants are guaranteed placement in a dorm if they meet the required deadlines.  The FLY Team will email students instructions on how to request SBU campus housing prior to the end of their program.  Students who do not meet the housing request deadline are not guaranteed placement.

Residence Halls

Students indicating they will live on campus will be placed in one of Stony Brook's 8 residence communities.  Incoming first year students living on campus and anyone living in a residence hall without cook facilities are also required to purchase a Stony Brook Meal Plan.

Before deciding to live off campus, please consult the Office of Off Campus Living for in-depth information about renting on Long Island, including tennant rights, safety precautions, what to avoid, and more.

Stony Brook's Off Campus Living Office also provides a  list of reputable rental options and SBU roommate listings.  Students should be mindful before choosing a rental to view the location in-person, review and understand the lease carefully before signing, and understand transportation options to and from campus.
