Health, Wellness, and Safety

Stony Brook University is committed to student health and safety whether on campus or overseas.  FLY students have a multi-level support system via Stony Brook University, our partner institutions, and our on-site program directors, giving students access to 24/7 support.

SUNY International Health Insurance

All FLY students will be enrolled in the required SUNY International Health Insurance for the duration of the program.   The health insurance  fee can be viewed within the general program budget and will billed through student's SOLAR account.

Immunization Requirements

The following immunizations and health forms are required for all Stony Brook University students and must be submitted prior to course registration:

  1. Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR)
  2. Meningitis Response

Copies of your immunization form or immunization history must be digitally uploaded to the Wolfie Health Portal.  Failure to submit proof of immunization may affect your course registration and enrollment.

Safety

It is recommended to learn about your host country prior to departure.  It is important to know about the cultural norms, the political system, and current happenings.  Students should use the resources listed below for information.

Accessibility Support

SASC (Student Accessibility Support Center) is the designated support service center to help enable students with disabilities to develop their academic potential, by making their academic experience accessible. In addition to arranging accommodations, a major part of the mission of the SASC is to encourage students with disabilities to achieve a high level of autonomy at Stony Brook and far beyond.

FLY students requiring accommodation are requested to indicate this in the FLY application so our team can work with partner institutions to provide support.

Wellness Resources

Stony Brook University takes the mental health and well-being of students very seriously.  Below are a list of virtual SBU resources that FLY students can access during their program in addition to services provided on-site at our partner institutions.

Student Health Services is the SBU health center on campus.  Students can access many of the SHS services overseas, including telehealth benefits.

TimelyCare is SBU's virtual healthcare provider. All FLY participants are encouraged to download the app before thier program to have 24/7 healthcare access through their mobile device at the click of a button.

The Student Support Team coordinates efforts to assist students who encounter challenges or concerns in achieving success at Stony Brook University.  They welcome any opportunity to provide consultation, answer questions, respond to concerns, or direct students to appropriate resources.

OEA (Office of Equity and Access) is charged with ensuring that the Stony Brook University experience provides equal opportunity and is safe, welcoming and free from discrimination.  The OEA website has a wealth of training resources on sexual misconduct and discrimination. Incident and misconduct reports can be filed online.
