Living at Stony Brook Southampton
Students choosing to live on campus at Stony Brook Southampton will be placed in either Southold Hall or Amagansett Hall.
These buildings offer a single-gender cooking suite consisting of two (2) double-occupancy rooms and three (3) single-occupancy rooms, housing a total of seven (7) people per suite. A full kitchen is available in the suite for the residents to share and prepare meals. Each suite shares a common bath and shower area. Spaces are gendered according to who is living in the suite.
Please note: Southampton does not currently offer a meal plan. There are kitchens in each suite for students living in the residence halls to utilize.

The Residence Life Office will make every effort to meet the medical needs of students who demonstrate a need for a single room. Each building does have a small number of ADA accessible rooms for students who utilize wheelchairs. A student wanting to request a single room for medical reasons must contact Student Accessibility Support Center to make an appointment to discuss specific needs, and if appropriate, this Office will make a referral to the SB-Southampton Residence Life Office.
Each student is provided the following furniture in their room:
- XL Twin Bed
- Desk & Chair
- Dresser
- Night Stand/Filing Drawer
- Wardrobe
All bedrooms have access to their own thermostat (air conditioning/heat), a telephone line, cable jack, and a hard-wired Ethernet port. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the building.

Double Rooms:
Rooms 105, 106, 113, 114, 205, 206, 213, 214 in each building
Students are assigned to a single-gender suite consisting of two (2) double-occupancy

The cost of laundry is now included in the cost of your housing.
Laundry facilities are located in basement of each residence hall.
Each laundry room features energy and water-efficient washers and dryers. Student are able to check the availability of the washer/dryers in their area using LaundryView before going to the laundry room. Please adhere to the laundry room policies:
- Only use two tablespoons of high-efficiency detergent
- Do not place laundry pods in soap tray
- Leave front-load washer door open after use
- Clean the dryer lint screen to ensure maximum air flow
- Remove clothing from machines in a timely fashion

Liability for risks or injury and/or damage to personal property, are expressly assumed by the resident. It is strongly recommended that each resident obtain appropriate insurance for personal property.

Step 3: Southampton Campus Phase 2
- Returning Southampton Graduate Students - March 8 Virtual Room Selection (by appt.) 12-month agreements will be assigned to Amagansett for Summer & 2024-25
- Michael can make alternate arrangements for meeting if cannot make March 8th.
- Move from SBSH to West Campus- Undergraduate 2024-25
- Follow Phase 2 Instructions on Campus Residences' poster and website
- Return to SBSH- Undergraduate Semester by Sea Fall 2024:
- Follow West Campus Room Selection to secure housing. SBSH will assign Fall 2024 Semester by Sea students mid-summer.
- Fill out Semester by Sea Housing 2024 - 2025 form by March 31
- A room must be selected by Friday, March 29, 2024 at 2PM. Students who miss the self-selection deadline but completed Phase 1 of room selection will be administratively assigned to an available vacancy after Phase 2 closes.
Students, however, can be administratively reassigned to a different Spring assignment depending on campus needs.
Students will receive notice of when their West Campus Assignment is ready. Southampton Student Life and their West Campus Community Area Office will work together with the student to ensure smooth transition.

New Students will need to request for housing through the New Student Application trough the housing portal after admission to the University. Typically a $200 housing deposit is required.
Agreements are 10 or 12 months. Students are financially liable for the full duration of agreement upon move in.
2024-2025 Applications will open in April 1, 2024.
NEW GRADUATE APPLICATION DEADLINES -
- May 15 at 11:59pm- $200 Deposits are not accepted after this date . If a student misses the deposit deadline, they need to join the On-Campus Housing Waitlist in the housing portal.
- June 20 at 5:00 pm: deadline for housing application for new transfer and graduate students on housing portal.
Please contact shstudentlife@stonybrook.edu for more information or if you do not have a University NetID to log into to portal after April 15th to apply for housing.
There is summer housing available to students enrolled, interning, or conducting research at Southampton Campus. Due to limited availability, students must be enrolled in Summer 2024 or have confirmation of internship/research on the Southampton campus if not enrolled over the summer.
Priority goes to students needing housing for the full duration of summer, then by summer session, then for a two week course.

- Graduate Students in need of Summer only housing need to fill out Summer Housing Application in Housing Portal. If student needs summer and academic year housing, please enter into a 12-month agreement.
- ENS 101 and Summer Oceanography (MAR 104) participants only do not need to complete a housing portal application. They will only need to complete relevant ENS 101 or MAR 104 Housing Request google forms in the next two sections.

The Summer Housing Application will go live on the Housing Portal on April 2. The priority deadline for a Session 1 arrival is May 1, 9:59PM, and for Session 2, arrival is June 17, 9:59PM. After the priority deadline, we will house students on a space-available basis but cannot guarantee housing or the desired arrival date.

Housing Costs

Once students have received their room key, they are financially liable until the end of the current housing agreement. Any request for release of liability must be received within 30 days after checking out.
Important terminology:
- Cancellation: when a student cancels their upcoming room reservation by submitting a cancellation request through their housing portal before moving in and does not complete a check-in or receive a room key.
- Termination of housing agreement: occurs during an active housing agreement after a resident has checked in and received their room key. Housing agreements end in May of the current academic year.
- Termination Fee: applied to cancellations and/or agreement terminations in the amount of $100, $200, or $400.
Newly admitted students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are looking to live on campus pay a housing deposit. Newly admitted students who are looking to cancel their housing request will be subject to the dates and terms outlined below:
• Requests received by July 31 are eligible for $100 of their deposit to be credited
to their student account.
• Requests received after July 31 and before the start of the housing agreement (the
Saturday before semester classes start) will be charged a $400 termination fee as
cancellations impact the reassignment of other students based on lower occupancy levels
at Southampton Campus.
Returning undergraduate and graduate students are not required to pay a housing deposit as part of returning resident room selection.
- Returning Graduate Students with agreements starting in June must cancel by May 31st and are subject to a $100 termination fee.
- Housing cancellation requests received by July 31 will be charged a $100 termination fee to their student account.
- Housing cancellation requests received after July 31 will be charged a $400 termination
fee as cancellations impact the reassignment of
other students based on lower occupancy levels at Southampton Campus.
All requests for cancellation of on-campus housing must be made following published procedures for cancellation in the housing portal. Students who do not have access to their Stony Brook Single Sign On can cancel via an email to shstudentlife@stonybrook.edu.
