Living at Stony Brook Southampton

Each student is provided the following furniture in their room:

• XL Twin Bed
• Desk & Chair
• Dresser
• Night Stand/Filing Drawer
• Wardrobe

All bedrooms have access to their own thermostat (air conditioning/heat), a telephone line, cable jack, and a hard-wired Ethernet port. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the building.

Students living on campus at Stony Brook Southampton are placed in a suite much like the one pictured below.

Bigger Singles:
Rooms 103, 116, 203, 216 in each building (Same price as regular single)

Regular Singles:
Rooms 104, 107, 204, 207 in each building

Double Rooms:
Rooms 105, 106, 113, 114, 205, 206, 213, 214 in each building

Students are assigned to a single-gender suite consisting of two (2) double-occupancy rooms and three (3) single-occupancy rooms housing a total of 7 people per suite.  Each suite shares a common bath and shower area, therefore only members of the same gender can live within the same suite.

The cost of laundry is now included in the cost of your housing.  

Laundry facilities are located in basement of each residence hall.

Each laundry room features energy and water-efficient washers and dryers.  Student are able to check the availability of the washer/dryers in their area using  LaundryView before going to the laundry room.  Please adhere to the laundry room policies:  

• Only use two tablespoons of high-efficiency detergent
• Do not place laundry pods in soap tray
• Leave front-load washer door open after use
• Clean the dryer lint screen to ensure maximum air flow
• Remove clothing from machines in a timely fashion

Students wishing to return to housing must participate in the Room Selection process to secure housing for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Please ensure that you follow the instructions for Phase 1 and Phase 2, depending on the campus or program in which you are participating. Student Life administratively assigns all Southampton (SBSH) students in Phase 2. Choices from virtual room selection are subject to change depending on need, but we will keep the chosen suite mates/roommates.

Room Selection is 3 easy steps! 

All Residents (Phase 1)

• Step 1: Please fill out SBSH Student Life Housing Intent Google Form (Due Thursday March 5, 2026 by 4PM)
• Step 2: All residents in need of housing must complete Returning Reisdnet Room Selection Phase 1 on Housing Portal by March 5, 2026 at 4PM
• If you fail to complete Phase 1, You will not be housed and will be waitlisted.

Step 3: Southampton Campus Phase 2 (by Student Type)

• Returning Southampton Graduate Students: After March 5, 2025, Student Life will make individual appointments via zoom to select a space. 
• Undergraduates Moving from Southampton to West Campus for Fall 2026 
• Follow Phase 2 Instructions on Campus Residences website.

• Current Southampton Undergraduate Residents Returning for Fall 2026
• Follow West Campus Room Selection Phase 2 on the Campus Residences website to secure housing.
• A room must be selected by Friday, April 3 at 2:00 PM. Students who miss the self-selection deadline but completed Phase 1 of Room Selection will be administratively assigned to an available vacancy after Phase 2 closes.
• Southampton Student Life will assign Fall 2026 Semester by Sea students mid-June.

FAQs

Why do I need to go through Room Selection if I know I am going to be at Southampton? 

You must go through Room Selection at West Campus even if you plan to fully enroll at Southampton. This is to protect you in case your academic plans change after Room Selection ends. This will ensure that you have an assignment where you are comfortable at West Campus and not stuck going on waitlists without fall housing (which are quite long for Fall semesters). 

When will Southampton Student Life assign me a room space? 

Following Room Selection, Student Life administratively re-assigns all Southampton students who participate in Phase 2 after confirming enrollment at Southampton sometime early to middle of May or early June. Student Life contacts students to ensure plans have not changed due to the availability of courses at Southampton.  

 

FALL 2026 HOUSING

• Deadline for priority consideration is March 5, 2025 at 4PM.  After that date, its based on available spaces at the time of request. 

SUMMER 2026 HOUSING

• See Summer Housing Section Below for deadlines. 

SPRING 2027 HOUSING 

• Deadline for priority consideration is  Dec 1, 2026 at 4PM. After that date, its based on available spaces at the time of request. 

New Students will need to request housing through the New Student Application through the housing portal after admission to the University. Typically, a $200 housing deposit by May 15 at 11:59PM is required in SOLAR.  

Agreements are 10 or 12 months. Students are financially liable for the full duration of the agreement upon move-in.   

2025-2026 Applications will be available starting April 13, 2026 at 10AM.

There is summer housing available to students enrolled, interning, or conducting research at Southampton Campus. Due to limited availability, students must be enrolled in Summer 2026 or have confirmation of internship/research on the Southampton campus if not enrolled over the summer.

Priority goes to students needing housing for the full duration of summer, then by summer session, and then for a two-week course. 

The Summer Housing Application will go live on the Housing Portal on April 7.

• The priority deadline for a Session 1 arrival is May 1, 9:59PM
• The priority deadline for a Session 2 arrival is June 16, 9:59PM
• After the priority deadline, we will house students on a space-available basis, but we cannot guarantee housing or the desired arrival date. 

How to Apply by Student Type

• • • Matriculated Undergraduate Students need to fill out the Semester by Sea Housing Request Form and the Summer Housing Application on the Housing Portal.
    • Graduate Students in need of Summer only housing need to fill out Summer Housing Application in Housing Portal. If the student needs summer and academic year housing, please enter into a 12-month agreement on the Housing Portal. 
    • Non- Matriculated SoMAS students (MAR 104, MAR 106, MAR 110) participants only do not need to complete a housing portal application. They will only need to complete the relevant Housing Request Google Forms in the next section.  

 

MAR 104-Summer Oceanography Course (July 7-20) non-matriculated students who are 17+ must request housing through the MAR 104 Oceanography Summer Housing Application

• Arrival Date: July 6 by 7:00pm (Building Meeting at 8:00pm)
• Departure Date: July 20 by 9:30am

Housing Costs 

• Single Room: $69.50 per night
• Double Room: $59.75 per night

MAR 106- Life in Our Ocean (August 3-August 14) non-matriculated students who are 17+ must request housing through the MAR 106 Summer Housing Application. 

MAR 110- Shark Biology and Conservation (July 21-31) non-matriculated students who are 17+ must request housing through the MAR 110 Summer Housing Application.

• Arrival Date: July 20 by 7:00pm (Building Meeting at 8:00pm)
• Departure Date: July 31 by 9:30am

Housing Costs 

• Single Room: $69.50 per night
• Double Room: $59.75 per night

Once students have received their room key, they are financially liable until the end of the current housing agreement (May 31st). Any request for release of liability must be received within 30 days after checking out (including Fall only Semester by Sea students).

All requests for cancellation of on-campus housing must be made following published procedures for cancellation in the housing portal. Students who do not have access to their Stony Brook Single Sign On can cancel via an email to reside@stonybrook.edu.
