PhD Admissions - December 1 Deadline

Fall 2025 entry is now open. Priority deadline (for domestic fellowship consideration) and international deadline is DECEMBER 1, 2024. Given a recent  and positive change in our funding structure, we are strongly encouraging both domestic and international candidates to apply, and to apply by the priority deadline. Other domestic applications may be considered up to January 15, 2025.

All candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Training Program should apply online through Stony Brook University Graduate School's website. The formal Program name is The Graduate Training Program in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology.

Please note that you may apply for Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology or Physiology, and indicate in your statement whether you would like to be considered by one, two or all programs. In addition, please send an email to phmgradadmit@stonybrook.edu that indicates this option is desired.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, we accept students with a wide variety of undergraduate majors. A typical applicant will also have taken upper-level undergraduate courses in Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and at least one of the following: Cell Biology, Genetics, Physiology, or Neurobiology. The Program considers all candidates equally. Women, members of racial and/or ethnic groups currently under-represented in biomedical science, and prospective applicants with post-baccalaureate laboratory-based research experience are encouraged to apply. If you require a disability-related accommodation, please contact Ms Odalis Hernández at (631) 444-3057.

We plan to accept both domestic and international applicants.

All accepted applicants have until April 15 to make their decision to accept our program's offers.

Reactivating a Previous Application: Applicants who applied for admission to the Pharmacology Graduate Program within the last twelve months, but did not enroll, may reactivate their previous application. Contact our program by email stating that you would like your application reactivated for the next class. When using this option we strongly encourage you to submit updated material to strengthen your application, such as transcripts with additional courses, retaken GRE scores, an updated Personal Statement, and, if more research experience has been added, revised or new letters of recommendation from your current supervisor.
