    About the Program

    Erasmus University Rotterdam is an international research and public institution, located in the animated and diverse city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. It’s one of the largest universities in the Netherlands, with students coming from over 130 countries. The university is highly ranked, classified as one of the top 5 universities in the Netherlands and 70 worldwide by Times Higher Education magazine.

    Note: Students may only study at Erasmus University Rotterdam for the academic year or spring semester, as their academic calendar conflicts with the spring semester start date for most SUNY schools. Exceptions can possibly be made for students studying abroad during the fall semester if it's their final semester before graduation

    Additional Information A Partner University program is a study abroad experience where students are nominated/accepted by Stony Brook University, and enroll at a partner institution. In most cases SBU faculty or staff are NOT traveling with participants.
    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Course Information

    Students have the option of taking courses at two distinct schools within the university:

    1. 1. The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication

    The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication educates both their domestic and international students in an exhilarating environment, which results in students “gaining the skills, knowledge, insights that enable them to make an important and inspiring contribution to a society that is becoming increasingly more international and in which diversity plays a major role.”

    Disciplines within the school:

    • History
    • Arts & Culture Studies
    • Media & Communication

    As an exchange student at Erasmus, if you take History, or Arts & Culture Studies you should follow at least 50% of their total number of courses within this school. The other courses can be taken outside of the school. 

    2.  The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences

    Disciplines within the school:

    • Social and behavioural sciences
    • Psychology and Pedagogy
    • Sociology and cultural studies
    • Political science and civics

     

     

    Academic Policies

    • Students must maintain full-time status while abroad
    • This is a partner university program. Applications must be submitted to Stony Brook University first. Information regarding the next steps in the process will be distributed to students who have received formal nominations by their International Programs Coordinator.
    • Grades earned in a Partner University program WILL NOT calculate towards the cumulative GPA for SBU students.
    • Non-SBU students must contact their home university regarding their grade and credit transfer policy.
    • All participants following the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) will receive GLO and EXP+ in addition to requirements fulfilled by their coursework.

  • Apply
