    About the Program

    DEADLINE EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 1

    SUNY Korea, which was approved by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in South Korea in 2012, is a partnership between Stony Brook University, SUNY, and the South Korean government. The first American university established in Korea, its students can enjoy both American education and dynamic Korean culture at this new campus. SUNY Korea offers Stony Brook degrees in computer science, Mechanic Engineering, Business and technology systems management.

    Additional Information A Partner University program is a study abroad experience where students are nominated/accepted by Stony Brook University, and enroll at a partner institution. In most cases SBU faculty or staff are NOT traveling with participants.
    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Other Requirements Students must be matriculated in an undergraduate degree program.



    Newly admitted SBU students are eligible to apply for the Fall 2021 SBU Home Abroad Program. First semester freshman should contact Stacey Acquaro via email prior to applying: Stacey.Acquaro@stonybrook.edu

    Application Deadline

    Fall/academic year admission: April 15 (extended to May 15)

    Spring admission: October 1

    Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

    Course Information

    Stony Brook students from the following majors can find SBU curriculum courses at SUNY Korea:

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Applied Mathematics and Statistics
    • Technology and Society
    • Business Management

    Courses taught at SUNY Korea are Stony Brook courses. Students can review available classes through the SOLAR System at http://www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem. SBU students are still required to get their courses approved by their academic department on the Learning Agreement form.

    Academic Policies

    • Students must maintain full-time status while abroad
    • This is a partner university program. Applications must be submitted to Stony Brook University first. Information regarding the next steps in the process will be distributed to students who have received formal nominations by their International Programs Coordinator.
    • Non-SBU students must contact their home university regarding their grade and credit transfer policy.
    • All participants following the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) will receive GLO and EXP+ in addition to requirements fulfilled by their coursework.
