MAY
22	Monday	Undergraduate students may begin applying to graduate for (Fall) December 2017 and (Winter) January 2018 graduation through SOLAR. The deadline date to apply through SOLAR is Friday, 10/20/2017. See your department and/or program to apply after 10/20/2017.
29	Monday	Memorial Day (classes not in session)
30	Tuesday	Summer Term I Session Code C begins.
JUNE
12	Monday	Classes begin for new students in the School of Nursing's 12 month Accelerated Bachelor of Science program.
19	Monday	Orientation begins in the School of Health Technology and Management for new students in Athletic Training, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Polysomnographic Technology, and Respiratory Care clinical programs. Classes begin for 3rd and 4th year students in the School of Medicine.
26	Monday	Classes begin in the School of Health Technology and Management for continuing students in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Respiratory Care.
26	Monday	Summer Term II Session Code 9 and Session Code M.

FALL 2017

TUITION & FEE LIABILITY RESULTING FROM STUDENT WITHDRAWALS & CANCELLATIONS

Students who officially withdraw from the University or reduce the number of credits for which they are registered may be entitled to a proportionate refund of tuition paid or proportionate adjustment of tuition charges. The first day of classes as scheduled by the campus shall be deemed to be the first day that classes are offered, as scheduled by the academic calendar.

Fall 2017 Calendar

AUGUST
9	Wednesday	Classes begin in the School of Medicine for medical students beginning Phase 1A and 1st year Dental students.
14	Monday	Classes begin in the School of Medicine for medical students continuing in Phase 1B. Classes begin in Dental Medicine for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students.
21	Monday	Graduate and Medicine students, may apply for Fall (December) and Winter (January) graduation. Candidates must apply on-line via the SOLAR system. The deadline for your name to appear in the commencement publication is Friday, October 20, 2017. Last day to apply is Friday, October 20, 2017.
28	Monday	Classes begin in the Basic Sciences; Graduate Program in Public Health; Nutrition; the Schools of Nursing; Social Welfare; Health Technology and Management; and West Campus.
28	Monday	Late Registration begins, $50 fee assessed to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before August 28, 2017.
SEPTEMBER
1	Friday	Last day for all students to submit major/minor or specialization changes effective for Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 term. TAP ELIGIBLE STUDENTS: To be eligible for any TAP and /or NYS Scholarship Program students must: a) be enrolled full time (12 credit minimum) all twelve (12) credits must be applicable to the degree and/or officially declared major and b) by Junior status (earned 57 credits or more) be in a declared major. 3	Sunday	Last day for all students to drop a course or withdraw from the university without tuition liability. Contact your Health Sciences school/program.
4	Monday	Labor Day (classes not in session). Offices Closed.
5	Tuesday	Classes not in session except for students in the School of Dental Medicine and Medicine, contact your school for additional information. Offices open.
12	Tuesday	For all students enrolled in full Fall term session code A; last day to add, swap or drop a class without a "W" being recorded. End of late registration. Tuition liability may apply.
OCTOBER
20	Friday	Undergraduate students: Last day to apply for Fall 2017 (December) and Winter 2018 (January) graduation via the SOLAR system. After 10/20/2017 you must complete the Application for Graduation Form. If you have any questions, contact your Health Sciences department.
20	Friday	Students in Graduate, Medicine and Dental Medicine programs, last day to file for Fall 2017 (December) and Winter 2018 (January) graduation. Candidates must apply on-line via the Solar System. After 10/20/2017 you must complete the Apply For Graduation Form. If you have any questions, contact your HSC department.
30	Monday	Tentative date for Winter and Spring 2018 registration for graduate and undergraduate students (not including non-matrics). Check the Solar System for your enrollment appointment. Undergraduate students may apply for 2018 Spring (May or June) or 2018 Summer (July or August) graduation. Candidates must apply via SOLAR system. Last day to apply is Thursday, March 1, 2018.
NOVEMBER
6	Monday	Last day for removal of Incomplete (I) grades from 2017 Spring and Summer term codes.
22	Wednesday	School of Medicine classes are in session. School of Dental Medicine classes in session. Contact your school for additional information.
22 - 26	Wednesday-Sunday	Thanksgiving recess (classes not in session). Classes resume Monday, November 27, 2017.
23	Thursday	Students in the School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine Thanksgiving recess begin.
DECEMBER
1	Friday	For Graduate, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Stony Brook Non Credit Career students, may apply for Spring (May or June) and Summer (July or August) 2018 graduation via the SOLAR system. Students in SBNC career finishing in June apply for Summer. Deadline date for Spring is Thursday, March 1, 2018. The deadline date for Summer is Saturday, August 18, 2018.
8	Friday	Undergraduate and Graduate students, last day to withdraw or take a leave of absence from the university. Withdrawing or a leave of absence from the University must be processed by the student's Health Sciences school/program.
16	Saturday	School of Social Welfare: Winter recess begins at the close of classes.
20	Wednesday	Fall Term ends. Winter recess begins at close of classes for programs in School of Health Technology and Management; 2:00 PM for Graduate Program in Public Health; 5:00 PM for School of Nursing; at the close of classes for programs in the Basic Sciences.
21	Thursday	Commencement
23	Saturday	Winter recess begins at the close of classes for students in the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. Classes resume for Phase 1 and Phase II medical students on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Classes resume for Phase III medical students on Monday, January 8, 2018.
26	Tuesday	School of Medicine: Winter break for Phase II students 12/26-1/2.
29	Friday	School of Medicine winter recess begins at the close of clinical rotations for medical students in Year 4.

JANUARY
2	Tuesday	School of Medicine classes resume for medical students in Phase 1 and Phase II.
2	Tuesday	Classes begin for programs in the Basic Sciences and Health Technology Management ($50 late registration fee assessed); Dental Medicine classes resume. For session code add/drop dates see Table of Session Dates - Spring 2018, below.
8	Monday	School of Medicine classes resume for medical students in Phase III.

22	Monday	Classes begin in the Graduate Program in Public Health; Schools of Nursing; Social Welfare; Health Technology and Management; Nutrition and west campus. ($50 late registration fee assessed to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before January 22, 2018.

29	Monday	Dental Medicine Spring 2018 classes, late registration, and add/drop begins ($50 late registration fee assessed).
FEBRUARY
2	Friday	For all students enrolled in full Spring term session code B; last day to add, swap or drop a class without a "W" being recorded. End of late registration. Tuition liability may apply.
5	Monday	School of Medicine Spring 2018 classes begin for medical students in Phase II and Phase III.
MARCH
1	Thursday	Undergraduate students: Last day for Spring (May or June) or Summer (July or August) degree candidates to apply for graduation. Undergraduates must apply on-line via Solar (Click on the 'Apply for Graduation' Link on your homepage.) Undergraduate students who have completed (posted to their records) at least 108 credits (or greater) with a declared major will be eligible to apply. After 3/1/2018, you must complete the Apply for Graduation. If you have any questions, contact your Health Sciences department.
1	Thursday	Graduate, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Stony Brook Non Credit career programs: Last day May/June (Spring) or July/August (Summer) 2018 degree and certificate candidates to file degree application in order to be included in the University Commencement publication. Candidates for graduation must apply on-line via SOLAR: Click on Student Records and Registration, Degree Progress/Graduation, Apply for Graduation. After 3/1/2018 you must complete the Apply for Graduation. If you have any questions, contact your Health Sciences department.
