ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO TASK FORCE

Scope

The Academic Portfolio Task Force is charged with initiating discussions with academic units on how to optimize the size, capacity, and scope of their undergraduate, graduate, professional, and non-degree granting programs. It will also make recommendations about the resources academic units require to strengthen existing programs, launch new initiatives, forge interdisciplinary connections, and develop creative new streams of revenue. The maintenance of Stony Brook University’s scholarly and research mission will be central to this process. Other factors taken into consideration in evaluating programs include existing faculty resources, student demand, student success, student career opportunities, and finances.

Key Priorities

  • Explore opportunities for tuition revenue growth through masters and other programs and develop a new tuition revenue sharing program to support growth and innovation.

  • Develop new interdisciplinary undergraduate programs with an emphasis on attracting out-of-state students;

  • Evaluate and streamline SUNY & SED approval processes for establishing new or updating current degree programs;

  • Expand opportunities to grow our non-degree, professional and continuing education programs including workplace credentials and feeders for other degree programs across the University; and

  • Review graduate education with a focus on doctoral programs and terminal masters; focus on balancing teaching and research needs with quality, experience and outcomes of our graduate students.
