Biography
Aruna Sharma started learning classical music at the tender age of three, under the guidance of Ustad (Maestro) Jamal Khan, one of the royal musician from the court of Baroda,Gujrat. Later on she studied music in an academic context at school and collegiate level along with other subjects. She was trained in music by Prof. R.C.S. Nadkrni and Prof. Sudha Srivastav and many other renowned scholars during her college years. Aruna received Ph. D. degree in music from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, under the guidance of Dr. B.L. Sharma.
Aruna Sharma started performing at the age of eleven at state level competitions. In her early twenties, she gave solo performances along with her teaching assignments in the Post Graduate College, Ajmer, Rajasthan. She performed in major cities of India and was awarded ‘SURMANI” title by Sur-Singar-Parishad, Munbai. Aruna Sharma performed regularly on Indian Radio and Television. Besides India, she has given concerts in several countries, such as U.K., Canada, Middle East, and in the United States. Along with her numerous live performances, Aruna Sharma has released several compact discs in the past, featuring her renditions in different genres of singing, such as classical, devotional music and Ghazals As a composer, she has composed Hundreds of compositions.
Aruna Sharma was awarded Research fellowship in 2011 by American Institute of Indian Music under the mentorship of Padm Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Saheb. As a result she published her first book, consists of her own compositions and a few were in the collaboration of Ustad Amjad Ali’s creation. She has published two more books on music, very useful for the serious learners of Indian Music.
