Foundation Relations

Foundation Relations (FR) is focused on securing significant foundation grants and gifts to advance the University’s mission. This is achieved by working with faculty, deans, administrators and the Advancement major gifts team to develop strategies for cultivating funders and creating compelling proposals.

Foundations can provide generous financial support to the University by funding scholarships, fellowships, career services, endowed faculty positions, research institutes, centers, and programs, classrooms and laboratories, community service projects, sponsorships, student and alumni activities, and much more.

FR works closely with both the Stony Brook Foundation and the Research Foundation for SUNY to ensure proposal and budget compliance and the proper stewardship of foundation gifts. Departmental successes have included major grants from the W.M. Keck Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and a gift to establish an endowed professorship in global citizenship.
