Purpose
The STEP program is a New York State Education department effort which began in 1986 to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college, and improve their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and the licensed professions. It serves about 200 local students each year. The program at Stony Brook University offers enrichment through opportunities by exposing students to many areas of study and career options, engaging students by offering opportunities and resources, and exciting students to learn about STEM and the licensed professions.
