STRATEGIES AND TACTICS FOR PREPARING NIH K99/R00 PATHWAY-TO-INDEPENDENCE CAREER DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS
All postdocs are invited to a workshop on the NIH K99/R00 Pathways to Independence
on Feb 13 at 10:30am.
This biomedical science fellowship provides up to 2 years of postdoc funding plus
up to an additional 3 years of independent research funding for your first faculty
job.
Eligibility:
Biomedical postdocs (i.e., NIH-funded fields) with no more than 4 years of postdoctoral
experience
No citizenship limitation!!

It's tax time!Postdocs with questions on how to file taxes, particularly international postdocs
uncertain about the U.S. tax system, are cordially invited to thefree tax clinicssponsored by theGraduate Student Organization. A qualified tax accountant is available at the times below to answer questions about
tax filing. Postdocs who wish to meet with the consultant are advised to fill outTHIS FORM. Enlisting his further services for preparing and filing taxes must be arranged separately
and may incur a fee.
ALSO, SPECIAL, LIMITED-TIME DEAL FOR INTERNATIONAL TAX FILERS:The GSO has also extended to our international postdocs a special deal with a (federal)
tax preparation service for international students and scholars called sprintax. Postdocs
may also take advantage of this, but the deal is limited to first few who sign up

Join the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs for our quarterly New Postdoc Welcome, followed by an informal coffee for all postdocs.
The Welcome offers an introduction to Stony Brook to help recently arrived postdocs
maximize their postdoctoral experience. All postdocs who have joined us in the past
six months are particularly encouraged to attend.

4.Career Planning Workshop and Career Mentoring Group Start Feb 15
You are invited to a workshop onPlanning Your Path to a Satisfying Career. Postdocs will learn strategies to explore a range of career interests and develop
an action plan to strengthen the skills required for pursuing their ideal career.
Participants will leave the workshop with a first draft or update of their Individual
Development Plan (IDP).
Postdocs who attend this workshop will also be prepared to join a new career mentoring
group from thePhD Career Ladder Program. We're very excited to adapt our NSF-funded PhD Career Ladder Program (PCLP) for
postdocs into a streamlined four month program, led by postdocs, for postdocs. Following
the PCLP model, a small group of postdocs would meet once a month for a structured
series of peer-led career preparation steps, from self-assessment, to skill identification,
to informational interviewing, and resume/CV refining. The first exercise for PCLP
is the Planning Your Path workshop on Feb 15th.

This two-day workshop is for postdoctoral fellows that are interested in a faculty
position in the chemical sciences at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI).
This event will be hosted by the University of San Diego in San Diego, CA from April 20 to 21, 2018. Free registration is available from early December 2017, if selected, housing and
all on-site meals will be provided.
