Biography
Distinguished Professor Emeritus Janos Kirz joined the Stony Brook faculty in 1968
following a PhD and postdoc positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and
Saclay, France. He retired in 2008. He served as chair of the Department of Physics
and Astronomy from 1998 to 2001.
Research Statement
Janos Kirz conducted experiments in high energy physics between 1960 and 1980 at the
Lawrence Berkeley Lab, Brookhaven National Lab, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory,
SLAC, and at CERN in Geneva Switzerland. Since 1980 his activities centered on X-ray
optics, X-ray physics and synchrotron radiation.
