The Center for Italian Studies offers a number of awards on an annual basis.

Dr. Michael De Luca Award

The Dr. Michael De Luca Award is awarded annually at Commencement to a student with academic focus on Italian Studies and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The recipient is chosen by a committee of three faculty members from the Italian program.

  • 2022: Celine Rivera (minor in Italian Studies)
  • 2021: Alisa Fomina (minor in Italian Studies), Anita Rescia (current PhD student in Hispanic Languages and Literature)
  • 2018: Jane Garramone

The Center for Italian Studies Excellence Award

This is awarded anually to a student whose research and/or work promotes Italian culture.

Recent Winners

  • 2024: Anita Rescia (for research on cinematic adaptations of Pinocchio)
  • 2023: José Gabriel Alegría (for research on the work of Botticelli), Alessio Arena (for research on Neopolitan folk songs)
