Participants will learn about the racial and ethnic connections that are tied to our country’s education and society. We will identify the historic and current triumphs of the many different racial and ethnic groups that have demonstrated the true diversity and melting pot aspects of America. Information will be provided about the glaring issues that are still observed over the inequalities that various groups must battle today outside of our schools. The course will look at the hard pathways towards citizenship and the struggles that immigrants still face today to achieve the American dream. Students will learn about the impact of social and economic differences within our nation that has made it a challenge for our students to succeed in schools and to get ahead. This class will examine and discuss the educational, legal, social, economic, political, historic and athletic concerns and achievements that are seen through the many cultures and groups that call the United States their home.
