Jiwon Hwang, Ph.D.
Topic Areas: Interlanguage phonology, second language acquisition, speech perception, speech accommodation, Korean photetics/phonology.
Jiwon Hwang earned a Ph.D in linguistics from Stony Brook University, with specializations in second language acquisition, phonetics, phonology, and psycholinguistics. Her research focuses on investigating the characteristics of second language speech, understanding the underlying mechanisms of speech production and perception, and examining sociocultural and cognitive factors associated with language learning and intercultural communication. Her scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Memory and Language, Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, and Brain Sciences. Since joining AAAS, SBU in 2013, she has taught courses in Korean language and linguistics, and her research has expanded to include intercultural communicative language teaching, which is closely related to her teaching interests.
