Requirements

This two-semester course sequence provides an opportunity for students to become peer mentors in their sophomore year and continue their involvement in their undergraduate college. College Fellows will enroll in a 275 course in the spring semester of their first year and 276 in the fall semester of their sophomore year.

Undergraduate College Fellows Seminar

SBU 275, 1 credit, S/U grading (course code based on Undergraduate College)
First Year, Spring SemesterMeeting time varies by Undergraduate College
SBU 275 engages students in four main content areas: student development theory, peer mentoring and leadership development, concepts of teaching and learning, and programming planning. These areas prepare students for supervised teaching and learning experiences that will occur primarily in the fall SBU 276 course.

Prerequisites:

  • Grade of "S" in First Year Seminar SBU 101
  • Enrollment in the Undergraduate College in which you will be a fellow
  • Selection by the UGC Team (includes interview process)
  • Minimum semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5 (3.0 for University Scholars) with no grades of NR, I or Q at the conclusion of the fall semester
  • Must be in good judicial standing with the University at the conclusion of the fall semester

Additional expectations:

  • Involvement in the planning of Undergraduate College activities and programs
  • Attendance at the College Fellows Retreat scheduled for a Saturday in March 
  • Attend and participate in at least one registration workshop during July or August
  • Assist with the Diversity and Seawolves 101 sessions during New Seawolf Welcome Week in August
  • Attend relevant workshops and trainings outside of class time

Undergraduate College Fellows Practicum

SBU 276, 1 credit, S/U grading (course code based on Undergraduate College)
Sophomore Year, Fall SemesterMeeting time varies by Undergraduate College
SBU 276 is an experiential learning course designed to provide opportunities for you to put into practice those concepts of the 275 course. This includes mainly working as a teaching assistant for SBU 101, but may also include volunteering to assist with Commons Day, participating and taking a leadership role in your College Council, designing, developing and coordinating College programs.

Prerequisites:

  • Grade of "S" in SBU 275 Fellows Seminar
  • Grade of C or higher in First Year Seminar SBU 102
  • Enrollment in the Undergraduate College in which you will be a fellow
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (3.0 for University Scholars) with no grades of NR, I or Q at the conclusion of the spring semester
  • Must be in good judicial standing with the University at the conclusion of the spring semester
  • Permission of the instructor

Additional expectations:

  • Attendance at and participation in monthly Fellows Reflection Meetings
  • Involvement in the planning and coordination of Undergraduate College activities and programs
  • Attend relevant workshops and training outside of class time
