What will participants gain from this program?
The program provides opportunities for participants to immerse themselves in hands-on academic college experiences, explore their academic interests with distinguished faculty and like-minded peers, and become inspired by the opportunities to learn new things and discover themselves. 

How long is the Pre-College Summer program?
Each Pre-College Summer session will begin on a Sunday and end on a Friday, for a total of 6 days. We are offering four sessions in Summer 2025.

Who is eligible to participate in this program?
To be accepted into this program, you must be a rising junior or senior who is in good academic standing. For 2025, this program is open to only to US residents who are between the ages of 15 and 17 at the time of program participation.

What does a typical week look like?

Can a participant enroll in multiple sessions?
Yes! Participants are free to enroll for more than one week. Please note: Our program cannot offer accommodations on Friday and Saturday nights. Participants interested in enrolling in more than one week must leave on Friday with all participants and return on Sunday of the week of their next scheduled program.

Is there a discount if a student registers for more than one session?
To keep the program fee as low as possible, we cannot offer a discount for registering for multiple weeks.

Will participants earn college credit?
The courses offered as part of the Pre-College Summer Program at Stony Brook University are non-credit. The programs are designed to be exploratory and experiential.  Participants will experience college-level learning delivered by faculty but without the pressure of exams or grades.  

What happens if Pre-College Summer cancels a course?
All courses are subject to a minimum enrollment. If we must cancel a course we will contact the student as soon as possible to discuss options of either a different time slot or course. 

What does the program cost?
The program fee is $2,250 (or $2,150 for those who apply before March 7). This includes the course, learning materials, social programs residence hall, and all meals. There is a $50 application fee.

Can international students apply?
Unfortunately this year we do not have the capacity to accept participants who reside outside of the United States to the Pre-College Summer Program. We hope to enroll international participants in the coming years as our program expands. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What is the location of the housing for participants and student staff?
Students will live in a suite-style residence hall. Our suites provide opportunities for residents to form a smaller community with a  more private living room and bathroom room. For more information, visit Campus Residences.

How are the rooms situated?
Student suites will have 2-3 bedrooms that hold 3-6 people total.

What is the bathroom situation?
All suites of 2-3 bedrooms will share a bathroom located on the floor in a communal area.

Can you provide details about the facilities, including sleeping arrangements, common areas, and recreational spaces?
You can view a virtual tour of a suite-style building to get a good idea of the participant living area.

What supplies are participants supplied with?
Participants are provided with the following supplies:

  • Mattress
  • Bed
  • Furniture
  • Pillows

Is there air conditioning in the living spaces?
Yes, there are window unit air conditioners in all bedrooms and suite common areas.
