Stony Brook University Consortium Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (SBU-CPP)

The SBU-CPP includes three member agencies:

  • Leonard Krasner Psychological Center (KPC), an outpatient clinic associated with the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology (College of Arts and Sciences)
  • Mind Body Clinical Research Center (MBCRC), an outpatient clinic in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health (Stony Brook Medicine)
  • Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH; Stony Brook Medicine), Long Island’s premier academic medical center which serves as the region’s only tertiary care center and Regional Trauma Center, among other medical specialties

The SBU-CPP trains and educates post-doctoral fellows to practice professional psychology competently based on a clinical scientist model. The training philosophy is informed by the Evidence Based Practice in Psychology (EBPP) approach, which encompasses the notion that best practice is grounded in the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of key patient characteristics (including culture, diversity, and preferences). A scientifically-minded approach informs every aspect of the SBU-CPP program.

We are pleased to offer several specialty tracks with immersive experiences:

Outpatient training experiences include transplant and pre-bariatric surgery evaluations; co-running evidenced group programs (Healthy Lifestyles and the Stress Management and Resiliency Training Program); and providing individual psychotherapy services to patients managing co-occurring medical and psychological problems. There may also be opportunities to participate in clinical research and supervision of psychology trainees.

Adult Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Post-doctoral fellows provide both inpatient and outpatient clinical services to adults presenting with primary psychological problems. Inpatient training experiences include working as part of interdisciplinary hospital-based services including a 30-bed psychiatric inpatient unit and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. There may also be opportunities to participate in clinical research and supervision of psychology trainees.

Adult Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Post-doctoral fellows provide both inpatient and outpatient clinical services to adults presenting with primary psychological problems. Inpatient training experiences include working as part of interdisciplinary hospital-based services including a 30-bed psychiatric inpatient unit and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program.
