Here is a list of scholarships, fellowships, internships, and other opportunities available to students. This list will be updated regularly.

Free Expression Advocacy Institute, Fall 2022

PEN America is currently offering a free online certificate program during the Fall semester (Wednesdays, September 28 – November 16, 2022, 4:15 pm – 6:30 pm ET). Students would learn about theories, laws, histories, and methodologies behind free expression advocacy. Afterwards, PEN will issue a certificate of completion that students could add to their LinkedIn profiles and CVs.

This program is free and available to all high school and college students. Full attendance is required to receive a certificate. Admissions will be decided on a rolling basis. The final deadline to have your application considered is Thursday, September 8 at 11:59 p.m E.T. If you have any questions, please email institute@pen.org.


International Parliamentary Scholarships

Each year, the German Parliament offers around 120 scholarships to young university graduates from 50 countries. The program runs each year from March 1 to July  31. The program aims to:

  • Promote relations between Germany and the participating countries
  • Consolidate democratic values and tolerance
  • Deepen understanding of cultural diversity
  • Secure peaceful coexistence in the world.

Applicants must have a university degree and a very good understanding of the German language. The scholarship pays 500 euro per  month and includes accommodation, health insurance, and travel costs.

Fulbright Fellowship

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which is sponsored by the Department of State, provides funding for overseas research, teaching, or study following the completion of one's Bachelor's degree. Students from any major are welcome to apply, and foreign language proficiency is only required for select countries.

The deadline for funding during the 2022-23 academic year has passed, however, current seniors or recent alumni may apply for an upcoming cycle. Undergraduates who will be completing a Bachelor's degree during Fall 2022, Spring 2023, or Summer 2023 are especially urged to consider applying.

Eligibility:

  • Must have earned a Bachelor's degree by proposed start of overseas experience, but not yet have earned a PhD
  • Open to applicants from all majors
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must meet any country-specific requirements
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA strongly recommended
  • Must apply by the September 9, 2022 Campus Endorsement Deadline

Jewish Foundation for Education of Women (JFEW)

This is a two-year program for students at Stony Brook University. The integrated program includes two years of scholarship support (up to $5,5000 each year), a monthly seminar series for two academic years, and a paid internship in a New York-based global organization offered during the summer between the Junior and Senior years.

Global Changemaker Fellowship

Applications are open for the 2022-23 Global Changemaker Fellowship—a 10-month advancement program intended to interface and develop a pipeline of Social Change Leaders who are focused on handling challenges in their local communities.

The fellowship equips changemakers with an opportunity to get access to global knowledge, community, training and tools to become more effective collaborators of change and grow their initiatives. The program will select 25 fellows globally aged 13-30 years who have been working towards solving a challenge in their respective communities.

U.S. Foreign Service Internship

Are you a passionate Sophmore or Junior interested in foreign policy? Are you looking to learn more about important global issues? Are you looking to learn more about what it's like to work at the State Department and becoming a Foreign Service Officer? If so, apply to USFSIP. Peace Corp Prep Program for Undergraduates

Thinking about joining the Peace Corps? Check out Stony Brook's  Peace Corps Prep program. It is a program that will prepare you for international development fieldwork and potential Peace Corps service. GLI courses are also part of the program.

Edward Guiliano '78 Global Fellowship Program 

The Edward Guiliano '78, PhD, Global Fellowship Program provides students with the opportunity to broaden their perspectives by engaging with the world beyond Stony Brook University and their local communities. Undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences may utilize this award for creative expression, research, and cultural activities for personal development outside of their comfort zone through travel, as p rojects must take place at least 200 miles from the student’s home or the Stony Brook campus. The goal of the Guiliano Global Fellowship program is to give Stony Brook students the opportunity to have a truly enriching, transformational educational experience.

Humanity in Action Fellowship

This is a year-long fellowship. Fellows first participate in an intensive three-week educational program providing a country and context-specific curriculum that examines historical and contemporary challenges to human rights, pluralism and equality. After the three weeks, they embark on developing civil society initiatives in their own communities.

Dr. William McAdoo and Mr. Ralph Watkins Memorial Scholarship

There are two scholarships that are now accepting applications. Each fellowship will award up to $500. If you are a full-time Stony Brook University student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and can demonstrate financial need, leadership qualities and community involvement, and potential and promise, apply now! Library Junior Fellows Summer Internship Program for 2021

Looking for a summer internship? The Junior Fellows Program is a 10-week paid internship running from May 24 - July 30, 2021. This is a great opportunity for students interested in learning and conducting research at the largest library in the world. For more information, click here

Youth Ambassador with the US Pavilion

Interested in becoming a youth ambassador with the US Pavilion, and learning about areas linked to innovation and human development such as the environment, energy, health, science, and the arts? Check out this program here

Spring 2021 Internships with the History and Public Policy of the Wilson Center

The History and Public Policy program is looking to host interns and research assistants during the spring, summer, and fall semesters.
