Institutional Review Board (IRB)
In order to ensure that faculty fellows can conduct research, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CELT) has an IRB that can encompass a wide range of studies. Faculty fellows will need to agree to read through the IRB to familiarize themselves with research protocols.
More specifically, research topics covered by the CELT IRB include, but are not limited to:
- Deconstructing student success
- Academic performance both inside and outside of the classroom
- Academic standing
- Division of Undergraduate Education programs, such as the Undergraduate Colleges (UGCs)
Research methods covered by the IRB include:
- Formal in-class assessment and surveys
- Interviews with students and faculty
- Focus groups
Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR★)
Faculty fellows will have access to resources provided by the Student Success Through Applied Research team. This team conducts original evidence-based research, evaluation, and assessment on topics that impact students, faculty, and staff. Their mission is to proactively work to retain students and guide them along the path towards degree completion. The SSTAR team meets weekly on Fridays, at 10 am until 12 pm for a Collaborative Lab, where Fellows can discuss their research.
Services provided by the SSTAR team include:
- Curriculum and SBC analysis
- Data and metrics on student populations
- Retention and graduate rate data
- Academic advisement process
