Stony Brook wins Solar Boat Championship

Prof. David Westerfeld spent the last couple of summer weeks with Stony Brook's Robot Team (in Michigan) and our Solar Boat Team (in Ohio). The Robot Team put in a great effort, but unfortunately failed to qualify for the main event. This was a big disappointment to the team, though they are already planning for a better showing next year.

The Solar Boat Team, however, had a great outing and won the IEEE Power Electronics Society Solar Splash Collegiate World Championship for the first time! They built a very well balanced and reliable solar electric boat and finished first or second in every racing event:

• 1st place in Solar Slalom
• 2nd place in Qualifying
• 2nd place in Solar Endurance
• 1st place Overall
