The Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University invites applications for an open-rank position within the broad theme of “Genomics In A Changing World”. Global change driven by increased human activities is the defining socio-environmental challenge of this century. We are interested in recruiting researchers who leverage genomic approaches within the context of these changes, aligning with a university-wide emphasis and strength in this area. We invite applications from researchers utilizing wet-lab, computational and/or theoretical approaches and those studying microorganisms, plants and animals (including humans). Specific areas of expertise can include, but are not limited to, population genetics, evolutionary genomics, comparative genomics, ecology and evolution of infectious disease, host-pathogen and/or vector co-evolution, evolutionary change documented through archival materials, microbiome variation, epigenetics, phenology, aging, experimental evolution and functional genomics.
We seek a candidate who will be an effective teacher in undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of ecology and evolution, and who will develop a research program that enhances and complements the work of our current faculty. Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in evolution or ecology, or a field closely related to the subject of the search at the time of appointment. Evidence of research activity relevant to the subject of the search as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications.Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral training in a field closely related to the subject of the search. High quality research and publications relevant to the subject of the search. History of, or strong potential for, attracting external funding. Proven experience or demonstrated potential as an effective teacher and mentor consistent with the Ecology & Evolution graduate program and mission of Stony Brook University. - Stony Brook University’s SoMAS and IACS invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning (ML) applied to climate and its impacts. The position starts in Fall 2025. We seek candidates addressing climate-related topics through AI/ML from diverse disciplines, such as climate and extreme weather, biogeochemistry, earth systems science, ecology & evolution, and social science. The Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering and Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS), invites applications to apply for tenure-track Empire Innovation Professor (Associate Professor) position at Stony Brook University with an expected starting date of Fall 2025. We are seeking an innovative and collaborative researcher focused on the development and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to advance the discovery and design of novel materials. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment between the department and IACS while engaging with Empire AI, which is a state-of-the-art AI computing center in New York State with an aim of facilitating statewide innovation, research, and development of AI technologies. Applicants with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, including the ability to teach new courses for the development of the Materials Engineering Undergraduate Program, and a strong potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
In the Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, our programs in Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical and Molecular Engineering offer students an extensive curriculum with the opportunity to pursue advanced studies and gain knowledge of materials and chemical engineering theory and its relationship to related engineering processes. Our department is home to many research centers including an EFRC on Energy Storage technologies, the Center for Mesoscale Transport Properties, the Garcia Polymer Center, and the Center for Thermal Spray Technologies. These centers offer a unique and rich environment for interdisciplinary research and education.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Margaret Schedel in the Institute for Advanced Computational Science and the departments of Computer Science, Linguistics, and Music. The Postdoctoral Associate will also work closely with other members of the Human-Centered Computing Working Group in the Institute for Advanced Computational Science. The incumbent will conduct studies on human creativity and innovation using a combination of simulations and experiments with real human participants. The incumbent will independently and/or with colleagues conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology including human subject, build models and conduct research experiments on creativity.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Active participation in the IACS community by attending and giving talks at seminars and workshops. Engage with students through mentorship and interdisciplinary discussions, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include mentoring graduate students, attending journal club, and attending scientific conferences.
