Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Assistance Program

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants from the federal government are an excellent way to help fund pre-seed, seed, and early stage companies, however navigating the proposal development process can oftentimes be complex.

The Downstate New York SBIR Assistance Center was established through support from Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) in an effort to expand SBIR reach and services across critical technology industry sectors for the downstate area. Those sectors include: biotechnology; information technology which includes cybersecurity, cleantech, electronics for defense;  and homeland security. The intent of the program was to allow small businesses to engage in research and development (R&D) that will have a strong potential for technology commercialization.
