Robert “Bob” Schwartz ‘75
Bob Schwartz, a long-time supporter of the Computer Science Department at Stony Brook
University, along with his wife Ellen, established a scholarship to benefit Computer
Science honors students.
“Ellen and I are so delighted to see the University construct a facility that is worthy
of the talented students that study there. We can’t wait to see the department occupy
this state-of-the-art facility, “ he said.
In 1975 Bob earned his BS in Computer Science, just 7 years after the program began.
Computing was then in its infancy, though Bob could clearly see its value along with
the advantage of managing data to help businesses become more efficient, creative
and accurate in their decision making process.
Bob is quick to point out that the theoretical foundation provided by the Stony Brook
Computer Science Department has allowed him to keep pace with the brisk and startling
innovations that have occurred in the world of computer science and technology.
Bob has been a part of the computing evolution in the world of finance. Innovations
in both technology and finance have completely changed the way financial transactions
occur, in particular in the world of securities trading where Bob has spent the bulk
of his career.
Today, Bob is the chief technology officer of SS&C GlobeOp, a leading fund administrator
that helps financial services clients reduce their technology investment and operational
risks, leaving more time to focus on asset generation and portfolio management.
