Scott Abrams ‘80
Scott has been a dedicated supporter of Stony Brook University, particularly the College
of Engineering and Applied Sciences where he earned an electrical engineering degree.
“The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences has played such an integral part
of my life and formation of my company,” said Scott. “ I simply cannot imagine life
without CEAS.”
Today, Scott is the founder, president and CEO of the engineering firm The Omnicon
Group Inc. Formed in 1984, Omnicon specializes in ensuring clients’ systems and equipment
perform reliably, safely and with longer operating life, by finding defects in designs
that lead to unreliable, unmaintainable and unsafe products. Omnicon is a noted expert
in software development; designing critical hardware systems, developing turnkey test
equipment, and providing specialized engineering-related services.
Stony Brook University has served as a primary source of technical talent for various
divisions of Omnicon. “The students we hire from the computer science department in
particular, are as good if not the best computer science talent available,” he said.
“With the new computer science facility and the proposed labs, and enhanced learning
experiences, graduates from this program will be even more in demand by employers
throughout the region and country.”
