Empire Innovation Professor (Associate Professor) - Offshore Foundation Systems

The Department of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University (SBU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the associate professor level in the area of offshore foundation systems. The faculty hire is to focus on developing and optimizing innovative foundation systems for offshore wind and marine renewable energy systems, improving methods for analyzing sediment-structure interaction and subsurface effects on foundation performance, mooring systems for renewable wind/wave/current energy systems, improved designs for anchored and floating foundation/anchorage systems and optimizing models for operational and extreme loading. Expertise in geotechnical engineering and sediment-fluid-structure interaction is sought.

This search is part of SBU’s strategic initiatives to strengthen its mission to develop solutions in response to the harmful effects of climate change. SBU is the anchor institution for the New York Climate Exchange, a first-of-its-kind international center for developing and deploying dynamic solutions to our global climate crisis. The "Collaborative for the Earth" is a multi-disciplinary "action-tank" that seeks to develop solutions in response to the harmful effects of climate change and in abatement of existential risks to the living world’s interconnected life-supporting systems.

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. A strong and well established research record, as evidenced by research funding and scholarly publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching in an environment similar to SBU. Preferred Qualifications: Industry experience related to the candidate's field of expertise and the ability to create synergy within and beyond the Department of Civil Engineering.
