SUNY Old Westbury will be running a seminar series for advanced undergraduate students in the spring. The idea is to expose these students (who are generally from underrepresented and/or underprivileged backgrounds) to the kind of things that PhD students do and encourage them to pursue career opportunities in STEM. The commitment is minimal, and would require you to send students a paper related to your research ahead of time and then prepare a 20-30 minute informal presentation about your own research. After that there would be a 15 minute Q&A session where students might ask you questions about your research, career goals, etc. If you are interested in volunteering as a doctoral student presenter for this effort please contact Dr. Miguel Garcia-Diaz in the Graduate Program in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at miguel.garcia-diaz@stonybrook.edu. This would take place via Zoom, so no need to travel.
