Neil and Arlene Graduate Assistantship

Call for Proposals

The Neil and Arlene Graduate Assistantship is sponsored by Neil and Arlene Butterklee, proud graduates of Stony Brook University. The purpose of this Graduate Assistantship is to provide graduate students with the opportunity to work alongside faculty and staff as they engage in research, teaching or administration.  Recipients of the Butterklee Assistantship will have the opportunity to apply their didactic business knowledge to real world research, education and management issues.  Students may assist faculty with research and education in any of the principal areas of business. This fund will allow graduate students to receive mentoring while performing meaningful work for equitable pay and experience.

The hours per week can vary, up to 29 hours per week (20 hours for international students, while classes are in session).  The typical hourly rate paid to graduate assistants is $15 per hour.  Depending on the proposal, students may work one or more semesters.  An example for an academic year appointment is outlined below:

Fall semester:      20 hours per week x $15/hour x 15 weeks = $4,500

Spring semester:  20 hours per week x $15/hour x 15 weeks = $4,500
