FSA Brings New Unique Gifts to the Seawolves MarketPlace

Stony Brook, NY, April 14, 2011 – FSA – the Stony Brook Faculty Student Association provides the Stony Brook University campus community with the right merchandise mix, from everyday living and grocery offerings to SBU logo merchandise, convenience services and unique gifts. For the spring semester, the Wang Center Gift Shop is open Wednesdays from 12 pm – 3pm and for special events. Throughout the week and on weekends, the Seawolves MarketPlace now carries a line of gift items for special occasions, inspired by the Wang Gift Shop. Seawolves MarketPlace is located in the center of campus in the Student Activities Center.

“We’ve worked hard to find gift items that are both interesting and affordable. There is a lot of handmade merchandise, including jewelry, scarves, toys, home and office accessories and many recycled or re-purposed items. By offering a varied selection of gifts, it’s easy for customers to find items for any special occasion right here on campus,” said Carol Lindquist, gift buyer for FSA.

These unique gift ideas will soon be expanded to include special items from a new program called Stony Brook Creates. This program enables Stony Brook’s creative people – faculty, students and staff to submit original work for retail consignment in campus shops. Stony Brook Creates features the work of SBU artists and scholars. Woodworking, ceramics, jewelry, photography, music CDs, sculpture, wearable art, instruments, self-published manuscripts (including electronic) and other creative products are sought for the program, which returns 70% of all retail sales to the artist. The purpose of Stony Brook Creates is to highlight the significant creative talents among the university community and to provide new publicity and economic opportunities for unique work. Items are subject to acceptance by a review committee and then may be displayed and sold in campus retails outlets, including Seawolves MarketPlace, the University Bookstore, the Wang Center Gift Shop, and online at sbushopred.com. Applications are available through Deborah DiFranco at Deborah.DiFranco@stonybrook.edu
