Karen Levitov specializes in contemporary art, museum administration and curatorial studies. Levitov was appointed Director and Curator of the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery in 2014. At Stony Brook, Levitov has presented exhibitions including Iconicity, Dos Mundos: (Re)Constructing Narratives and solo exhibitions by artists including the Guerrilla Girls, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, Isabel Manalo, and Kate Gilmore. She has curated exhibitions, written catalog essays and has been a speaker, panelist, and juror for various projects. Her curatorial and educational programs have been awarded several grants. In addition, she teaches Gallery Management.
Prior to her appointment at Stony Brook, Levitov was a curator and senior administrator at The Jewish Museum, New York, where she organized numerous exhibitions, including a solo exhibition of Kehinde Wiley’s monumental portraits. Levitov’s books published in conjunction with her exhibitions include New York: Capital of Photography, Camille Pissarro: Impressions of City and Country, and Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore.
