Marianna earned her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s College and her Master’s in School Counseling from Long Island University. Marianna joined the Stony Brook University Admissions Office in 2006, and previously worked for various colleges and schools both here and in Florida. In her current role, as the Assistant Director of Enrollment Operations, she provides professional support for the Undergraduate Admission Department by having the principle responsibility of implementing and managing the paperless process of admissions. Christina earned her Bachelor’s in Business Management from Five Towns College, and went on for her Masters in School Counseling from Long Island University-Post. She has been working in Higher Education (specifically Admissions) for over 10 years. Christina has a passion for working with first generation students, as she was a first-gen student herself. She recruits in New York, specifically the five boroughs of NYC and Long Island. In addition, she provides both parents and guidance counselors with the knowledge and support of how to help their students reach their dreams. Having grown up locally, Katie feels a strong connection to Stony Brook. She left for 4 year period while she attended The University of New Hampshire and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree. She returned "home" after graduating college in 2002 and has been working in the Undergraduate Admissions Office at Stony Brook ever since. She also received her Master’s Degree from Stony Brook in 2007. She encourages students to visit campus. Originally from New York City, Amanda moved out to Eastern Long Island to pursue her Bachelor’s in English at Southampton College before beginning her career as an admissions officer. She has held various positions in admissions, including Director of Graduate Admissions at Southampton. She joined Stony Brook's Admissions Office in 2004, and has since earned her Master’s in Liberal Studies from SBU. Amanda enjoys her travel and recruitment duties in Massachusetts, and notes that what she likes best about working in the Undergraduate Admissions area is that every few months we are doing something else. “In the fall we recruit, in the winter we read applications, in the spring we host admitted student programs and meet with students,” and she says, “in the summer we host information sessions and plan for the next year.” She advises prospective students to “keep an open mind and not be too fixated on the degree, but enjoy the process. Take a variety of courses, try something new, and take advantage of all that you can in college. There is no right or wrong major; there is no right or wrong path. East student has an individual experience and educational journey, so do what you enjoy to the best of your ability. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.” |

Christopher grew up on the south shore of Long Island, near the East End. You may find him on the beach or at the rink playing hockey with his buddies. Although travel is one of his favorite activities, he enjoys rest and all four seasons in New York too. The North Fork and NYC are two of his favorite places to explore. If Christopher could host a timeless dinner party, he would invite Jorge Luis Borges, Bill Hicks, John Stuart Mill, Carl Jung and 2Pac to name a few. Lauren attended C.W. Post, earning both her Bachelor’s in Electronic Media and Master’s in School Counseling. As the National Admissions Counselor at Stony Brook, Lauren travels across the country talking to high school students about Stony Brook. “I love meeting people from different regions of U.S.,” she says. Lauren constantly finds herself impressed with the variety of academic and social opportunities at Stony Brook University. She believes new students will also enjoy the many opportunities Long Island has to offer. Originally from Merrick, a nearby town on Long Island, she’s still in love with how the Island has a little bit of everything, from famous beaches to easy access to New York City. She encourages prospective students to visit Stony Brook and see if they can picture themselves as college students here. “It’s important for a student to choose a school they love in a location where they would enjoy living,” she says. When she's not working or involved in Admissions Counseling Associations, Lauren can frequently be found in her kitchen. An avid recreational chef, she’s often inventing a new soup or whipping up a signature pasta dish. |

Having personally experienced the international admissions at an early age in Africa, at the American School of Marrakesh in Morocco, he is excited to bring in his international perspective and experience with prospective students hailing from France, Africa, the Middle East and any part of the world. He speaks 4 languages including French, Arabic, Moroccan and of course English. Rachel attended Suffolk County Community College for her associates degree in Liberal Arts, SUNY Binghamton for her B.S. in Human Development, and completed her M.A. in Higher Education Administration here at Stony Brook University in December 2016. Born and raised on the East End of Long Island, Rachel considers herself to be a rural girl at heart. She loves having beaches minutes away from her home, while also being able to explore local restaurants, businesses, and farms closeby. When she's not working, Rachel enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, weightlifting, walking/hiking with her two rescue dogs, catching up on all of her favorite shows, and traveling to her favorite getaway spots. Rachel encourages all prospective students to visit Stony Brook. Dean Judith Berhannan earned her B.A. in English and Secondary Education at Adelphi University, before receiving her M.A. in Education and College Student Development from CW Post. She began her career at Stony Brook University as a counselor in Undergraduate Admissions in 1983. Prior to her appointment as Dean of Admissions, she served as Associate Dean, coordinating SBU’s multicultural recruitment efforts. During her career at Stony Brook, she has served as advisor to the SAINTS, the Mentor Program, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Minorities in Medicine and the National Society of Black Engineers. She has been awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, the State University of New York’s Admissions Profession Award, and the 2008 EOP/AIM Distinguished Advocate Award. Dean Berhannan truly enjoys the variety afforded by her position at Stony Brook. She finds that working with students at so many levels, from high school seniors to graduate students with multiple degrees, presents her with a range of invigorating teaching and learning opportunities. She also notes that coordinating the departments within the Office of Admissions provides a great deal of daily variety and exciting exchanges. Ms. Berhannan encourages prospective students to be proactive and to be as early as possible when applying to Stony Brook, noting that applicants should “be ahead of time instead of on time.” She believes that students who choose to attend a large university center such as Stony Brook are being given unlimited opportunities to expand their horizons. As Associate Dean of Admissions, Rob coordinates the University’s undergraduate student recruitment outreach. With a Master’s degree in Counseling, he works very closely with high school counselors and serves on numerous boards of counseling associations at the local and state levels. Rob has a special appreciation and respect for the important role counselors play in guiding students. He adds, “I am so fortunate to be in the position where I can share my experiences at Stony Brook with prospective students and their families.” As a Stony Brook graduate, he believes in motivating, engaging and inspiring future generations of Stony Brook alumni. Also known as His Royal Highness, in his spare time beyond Stony Brook, Rob enjoys interior design, shopping and spending quality time with Bailey, his adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. As a typical Virgo, Rob takes organization to the extreme. He is also an avid automobile enthusiast and is proud of his diverse collection of model cars. You can easily find him around town spinning his wheels in his “ultimate driving machine.” |

Dr. Yu-wan Wang became the Associate Dean of International Admissions at Stony Brook in 2009. Dr. Wang grew up during China’s Cultural Revolution, as an intellectually curious child caught in turbulent times, she recognized the importance of education at a very young age. Dr. Wang holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, a Master’s of Library and Information Science, and a Doctorate in Education. One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is helping international students develop intellectually and personally one step at a time, starting with gaining admission to this internationally renowned institution. |
