Subject: Make Your Vote Count - Don’t Miss These Upcoming Deadlines!

Dear Seawolves,

Tuesday, November 5th is Election Day, and we want to inform you of important upcoming deadlines to register to vote, request a mail-in ballot, and vote early. Please read below to learn more about the voting methods available to you and their associated deadlines:

If you still need to register to vote:

  • New York voter registration applications must be submitted to the respective Board of Elections by Saturday, October 26th
  • Unsure of your voter registration status? Visit the New York Voter Lookup website. 
  • Registration deadlines vary by state; out-of-state registration status and deadlines can be viewed at vote.org.


If you plan to vote early:

  • Early voting in New York begins on Saturday, October 26th and ends on Sunday, November 3rd;locations and hours of operation vary across counties and may differ from your assigned Election Day polling location
  • New York State (non-NYC) voters can visit any early voting site within their county to cast their vote early between the above mentioned dates
  • Stony Brook Southampton is an Early Voting polling site; students who frequent that campus who are registered to vote in Suffolk County are encouraged to vote there during the early voting period
  • New York City designates one Early Voting location within each borough. To learn more about voting early in New York City, visit the Vote Early NY website
  • Planning to vote early outside of New York State? Visit vote.org to see if your state offers early voting or email us at civicjustice@stonybrook.edu for assistance. 


If you want to vote by mail:

  • An additional application is required to vote by mail. The deadline for submitting an absentee or early mail ballot application in New York is October 26th. 
  • Each state has its own requirements and deadlines for voting by mail. Visit vote.org to check deadlines in your state and submit an absentee or early mail ballot application.

To learn more about how you can vote in the upcoming presidential election visit the Center for Civic Justice’s (CCJ) Vote Early Day Celebration on Wednesday, October 23rd(11:00am-3:00pm, SAC Plaza.) 
Note: This event will be the last opportunity to complete a voter registration application through the CCJ before the registration deadline.
