The frequency and intensity of storms have increased in recent years. In addition, sea level rise and land subsidence have made coastal areas more vulnerable to coastal flooding.

In the United States, more than half of the country’s population lives in coastal counties. The direct and indirect physical effects of future sea level changes and intensified storms must be taken into account during the planning, engineering, and designing of coastal projects. Better preparedness against flooding requires deeper understanding of coastal phenomena as well as better design procedures for coastal infrastructures.

My research interests focus on nearshore hydrodynamics, coastal sediment process and beach morphological evolution, wave-current-sediment-structure interaction, resilient coastal protection systems and coastal flooding. As a registered Professional Engineer, I would like to apply my research to coastal engineering practices.

I have authored several journal papers and conference proceedings.
