February 19, 2025
Good morning,
On behalf of the SUNY Board of Trustees and following a comprehensive national search,
I am thrilled to share the news that Dr. Andrea Goldsmith has been appointed as the seventh president of Stony Brook University.
Dr. Goldsmith is currently the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science and the Arthur LeGrand Doty
Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton University. Her impressive
experience includes serving as a dean; a faculty member at Caltech, Stanford, and
Princeton; Chair of Stanford’s Faculty Senate; an accomplished researcher and member
of the National Academy of Engineering; a successful innovator and entrepreneur; and
a committed educator and academic leader.
I am confident that Dr. Goldsmith is an extraordinary choice to lead this esteemed
SUNY institution to even greater heights. Dr. Goldsmith will officially join the Stony
Brook community on August 1st, and you can learn more about her here.
I want to express my gratitude to Stony Brook University Council Chair Kevin Law and
the remarkable members of the presidential search committee who dedicated their time
to this vital work. Additionally, I would like to thank Interim President Dr. Richard
L. McCormick for his excellent leadership during the transition and for his commitment
to Stony Brook.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Goldsmith and beginning an exciting new chapter for
