It was also an honor during the Stony Awards ceremony to recognize additional faculty and staff achievements including Provost’s Awards, the Stony Brook Trustees Awards, Distinguished Professors Awards and Chancellor's Awards for Excellence. I would like to extend a special note of congratulations and best wishes to Judy Greiman who was recognized for extraordinary service. She joined Stony Brook University in 2015, serving as chief deputy to the president and senior vice president of government and community relations until her retirement this past August.
The Stony Awards were created in 2023 to celebrate excellence, and to help nurture and model the strong sense of togetherness and excitement on our campus. As I mentioned at last night’s ceremony, the culture of gratitude and reciprocity at Stony Brook University is unique. It was one of the first things I noticed when I arrived on campus. I am grateful for the attention given to building and stewarding Stony Brook’s culture of belonging and appreciation. Together we continue to create a living, learning and working environment that is strong, caring and welcoming. For that, I am inspired and grateful.
I mentioned this in my recent State of the University address, but I believe it bears repeating: Stony Brook University employees come to campus with a sense of purpose. We received this special recognition in our Middle States re-accreditation report and we saw it clearly on display last night. Faculty, staff and healthcare workers are passionate about our mission and that passion illuminates our work—from everyday tasks to long-term goals and ambitious projects. That is truly something worth celebrating.
You can read more about the event and our colleagues recognized on the program website. My sincere congratulations to all of the honorees celebrated last night. Thank you for going above and beyond and for all you do for Stony Brook.
Sincerely,
Richard L. McCormick
Interim President
