Red Flag (Fire) Warning in Effect
Dear Stony Brook community,
The local area is under a moderate drought due to the lack of rain. The Governor of New York has issued a Statewide Burn Ban and the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag (Fire) Warning for our area.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly due to a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels. Any fires that develop may quickly get out of control and become difficult to contain.
To reduce fire risks on campus:
- Do not smoke on campus or discard any lighted materials on the ground.
- Open fire pits, S’Mores events and campfires are prohibited.
- Only park in designated parking areas, do not park on the grass/off road.
- If you see an accumulation of leaves that have not been cleared, call 631-632-6400 or submit online: FIXIT
- All outdoor cooking is prohibited.
Stony Brook will continue to mitigate fire risks by keeping the campus clear of leaves and debris from around buildings and parking lots.
To report emergencies on campus, call University Police: 631-632-3333.
