Developing Partnerships in Vietnam

Partnerships in Vietnam

In November, President Samuel Stanley Jr., MD and Dr. Jun Liu traveled to Vietnam, one of Stony Brook’s top ten countries for international students, to learn about the country’s higher education system and explore areas for collaboration and exchange.

The Stony Brook delegation visited universities and government agencies in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including the top two university systems in Vietnam: Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.  Both university systems are composed of independent, subject-specific universities.

While Vietnam is a growing partner for Stony Brook, with many opportunities for future cooperation.  The School of Journalism already has ties to VNU Ho Chi Minh City’s University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH).

Since 2012, the School of Journalism has been collaborating with USSH to introduce the concept of News Literacy to their programs.  Journalism faculty have run News Literacy workshops across Vietnam, and helped incorporate News Literacy into coursework at VNU Ho Chi Minh City.  This December, the School of Journalism signed an MOU with USSH to increase collaborative efforts.
