Stony Brook University received another $9.8 million in Higher Education Emergency Relief  Funds (HEERF II) created under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). This program, with some changes, provides supplemental funds to the CARES Act section 18004(a)(1) program. Stony Brook University signed and returning to the Education Department a Certification and Agreement as required under the CARES Act section 18004(a)(1) program. We acknowledge that by drawing down the CRRSAA funds, our institution agrees to be bound by the conditions set forth in the CRRSAA Supplemental Agreement including using 100 percent of these funds to provide emergency aid grants to students.

• Am I eligible to receive HEERF II funds?

  Students are required to have a valid 20/21 FAFSA on file with the University. Per SUNY guidance, 97% of the funding will be offered to students who have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) below $5,712. Any remaining funding will be awarded to students with exceptional need. 

  The Base Grant for eligible full-time students is $600 and the Base Grant for eligible part-time students is $300. The final grant award amounts were determined as follows using a template provided by the State University of New York (SUNY) that takes into consideration a student's status as full or part-time and their EFC Range.

  It is estimated that 8,587 students will qualify for HEERF II funds using the matrix above.

• What are the terms and conditions of the grant?

  Federal funds have been made available to award emergency grants directly to students for expenses related to any component of your cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to the pandemic. Eligible expenses include tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or childcare.

• What do I do if offered a HEERF II award?

  Please sign into SOLAR and accept or decline your CRRSAA HEERF II Direct-to-Std award by going to Campus Financial Services > Financial Aid > View & Accept/Decline FinAid and select the 2021 Aid Year. 

  If you accept the award it will be refunded to you via direct deposit or a mailed paper check. For faster receipt of your grant, Enroll in Direct Deposit under Campus Financial Services in SOLAR. 

  If you decline, the award will be removed from your account. 

• I still owe a balance on my student account. Will HEERF II pay off that balance?

  The CRRSAA HEERF II Direct-to-Std emergency grant will be offered as a grant and refunded directly to you.   The refund you receive may be used to pay any balance owed to the University.
