Assistant / Associate / Full Professor

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree (or equivalent) with three years of postdoctoral research experience or faculty appointment at an academic institution.  Experience in basic and/or translational cancer research.  Record of grant support at national level.

Preferred Qualifications

Focus on immunotherapy in biomedical cancer research.  History of obtaining RO1 level federal cancer research support.  Teaching experience for PhD students.  Interactions with radiobiology with in vivo and invitro experimentation.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Tenure track faculty position in Cancer Research and Radiobiology. 

The Department of Radiation Oncology and Stony Brook Cancer Center in the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant/Associate or full Professor.  Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree (or equivalent) and have at least three years of postdoctoral research experience or faculty appointment at an academic institution.  Ideal candidates will be those with experience in basic and/or translational cancer research, potentially including mechanisms of tumor aggression, tumor immunotherapeutics diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers, or other areas that impact radiation oncology. Applicants using immunological approaches in their research are especially encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will establish a vigorous extramural research program that complements existing areas of expertise within the Department and the Stony Brook Cancer Center, participate in the educational mission of the graduate and medical school, and provide service to the Cancer Center as the Director of Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology.  The successful candidate will also be given a joint academic appointment in an appropriate department.

The Department and Cancer Center provide a highly interactive scientific community, with research programs highlighted by cancer lipids and metabolomics, oncogenic drivers of carcinogenesis, biomedical informatics, neuroinflammation, radiation modulatory effects on the tumor immune microenvironment, and imaging as enhanced with the recent installation of a cyclotron in the new Cancer Center building.  The position offers competitive start-up support and salary, quality research space, and a dynamic intellectual environment.  Stony Brook University maintains state-of-the-art core facilities and provides support in a number of areas including advanced microscopy and animal imaging, flow cytometry and cell sorting, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinfmatics and animal facility, and is equipped with an animal BSL-3 containment core facility.  The medical school has pre-doctoral and MSTP training grants and a broad infrastructure for research investigation.  With a recent very large gift, Stony Brook University is embarking on a transformational expansion of the biomedical research enterprise.  Diverse opportunities for collaborative research on campus also include the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, the Center for Structural Biology, the Institute for Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery, and the interactive Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Departments.

This is a tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
