STEM Adventures:
Bringing K-12 Students to Research Labs and Facilities
Plainview-Old Bethpage’s John F. Kennedy High School
Stony Brook University’s Advanced Energy Center and the Center of Excellence in Wireless Information Technology (CEWIT) hosted the winning team of Medical Marvels from the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and Northwell Health’s Workforce Readiness Program. On June 1, the five 9th and 10th graders from Plainview-Old Bethpage’s John F. Kennedy High School visited the Advanced Combustion and Energy Systems Laboratory to speak about their prize-winning biofuel project with Dr. Dimitris Assanis, while learning about engines, testing, and the PhD pathway. The students and their advisors then discussed the web-based aspect of their project with Dr. Rong Zhao, before viewing AI and machine learning-based technology at CEWIT.
