Haley Akemi Briggles
Haley Akemi Briggles is a PhD candidate (effective Fall 2022) in Music History and Theory. Her research focuses on the relationship between 20th and 21st century East Asian American musicians, silence, and marginalization of Asian Americans in American popular culture. As a part of Stony Brook University's inaugural 2022 IDEA grad cohort, Haley is excited to work on several projects that aim to increase Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) in the Humanities at Stony Brook. Haley also represents the Department of Music as a Graduate Student Organization senator. Prior to entering the program, Haley received her Bachelor of Music in piano performance as a Regent’s Scholar at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She has extensive experience performing, teaching, accompanying, and doing collaborative work.
